STRUCTURE;

PROBUS is simple in structure, and free from the obligations and constraints of a service club. Being directed, primarily, to providing the opportunity for extension of acquaintance and interests. Seeking members who are compatible with one another. Clubs are non political and non sectarian and they are non profit making and non fundraising.

Activities normally fall into three parts;

-       A formal meeting on a set day each month. This comprises a club business session, a coffee break followed by a guest speaker on a topic of mutual interest or a Member Profile.

-       Outings (between meetings) to places or organizations of interest to members, theatre, social or sporting occasions. They may include overnight trips, tours and walks.

-       Interest group activities, such as card sessions, sewing, dancing, sports or hiking.

Membership is open to anyone of good character who has had some measure of responsibility or achievement in any field of worthy endeavour.

ROLE OF ROTARY DISTRICT PROBUS CHAIRMAN

Each accredited Probus club is associated to a Rotary District and each Probus club was formed by a Rotary club within that Rotary District.

The success of Probus in Australia, New Zealand and The Philippines is due to the commitment from Rotary and the recognition that Probus is a Community Service Program of Rotary clubs.

The growth of Probus has throughout the years been influenced by the enthusiasm and endeavors of the many Rotarians who have served as Probus Chairmen.

Rotary District Probus Chairman (RDPC) play an extremely important liaison role between Rotary and Probus and are recognized by Probus Centre as key partners ensuring stability and growth of the Probus organization.

Each year these officers are trained on all aspects of the Probus organization to be able to assist and advise Probus clubs and are provided with important statistical information related to waiting lists, ageing and demographics. Quarterly reporting is sent to Probus Centre for the Board to address issues and concerns.

Their role is to investigate the need for new Probus clubs, to engage Rotary clubs in sponsoring the formation of new clubs and to ensure the health of existing Probus clubs.

Membership development and retention are key areas of concern; in some cases clubs need to amalgamate, change from single gender to combined, become re birthed or to wind up.

The RDPC welcome invitations to attend club meetings and events and are there to assist where needed.
