Friendship Day in
The Mount Gambier Men's Probus Club
coordinate an annual Friendship Day for members of Probus clubs
in the wider district. This is held in a parklike setting beside

The highlight was the Petanque knock-out
competition. Each club fielded at least one team to compete for the
perpetual trophy, donated in 1999 by Joe Matthews of Naracoorte Men's
Probus Club. Laughter and cheering encouraged the players until the
final - when Penola Combined Club (helped by Joe who made up their team)
defeated Les and Shirley, Rick and Lyn - the most successful of three
It was altogether a very enjoyable occasion in the
true spirit of Probus.
News from the Probus Club of Portarlington Inc. The July meeting was well
attended bearing in mind the usual exodus to the sun during this time of
the year. Those attending were delighted to welcome Una McAlinden, the
director of the National Celtic Festival held in Portarlington each
Queen’s birthday weekend in June. Una gave a very entertaining and informative talk on
the humble beginnings of the festival which over the last seven years
has become a National Festival attracting top line artists from
Australia and overseas. Upcoming events in the club are:- September 30-Bus and Ferry trip
to Mornington Marlet October 22-Mystery trip, cost includes bus fare,
lunch with wine President Ethel Gibbs and Trips and |
Back to School Meeting

Portarlington
Probus Club held a "back to school meeting" to welcome our speaker,
Mrs. Jackie Kaiser, Acting Principal of the
20 of our members and 25 new friends spent 6 days
visiting Mildura and Broken Hill. We left in terrible weather and
returned in the same weather. Fortunately the weather during our
visit was very mild and sunny. After passing Ballarat the scenery was not
inspiring but we sang along with music tapes and also had a laugh
listening to a comedy by Rodney Vincent. Out first overnight stop was at Wentworth, the
junction of the Murray and the Darling. The next morning we travelled to Broken Hill, an
amazing town with 5 traffic lights on the surface and 100 in the
mines. Our guide, Fred (third generation local) spoke of his town
with much passion and was a working encyclopaedia. The last day included a cruise along the Highlights of the visit were: 1.
