UPCOMING EVENTS

Watch this space for news of coming events at Club, Regional, District or National Levels.

Individual Clubs should feel free to submit news of any activities or functions that they want to promote to other Clubs in their locality, region or across all Clubs in District 9780.

Maybe your Club is considering a trip and you want to make it viable by networking with neighbouring Clubs and inviting their members to participate.

In the near future details of the 2009 and 2010 District Conferences will be shown on this page.

PROBUS DISTRICT 9780 CONFERENCE 2009

The 2009 District Conference was held at the Bray Raceway, Ballarat on 11th. & 12th. October.

Mark Bevelander writes the following message for everyone’s interest, especially those that were present:

The 2009 District Conference is now well behind us.  During the Conference we all engaged in some workshop discussions on the Monday afternoon.  The outcomes, as discussed by yourselves, have now been placed on the Conference website at: http://conference.probussc.com.au

In addition there is also a good selection of photos taken of the Conference activities and yourselves as participants.  Take the opportunity to find yourself in these.

Also there are some links regarding the Rob Gell talk on Global Warming.

Please don’t hesitate to pass this information on to other members of your club as they may also wish to read about the discussions and see the photos.

Probus District 9780 Conference 2010

All members of Probus Clubs in District 9780 are now invited to attend the 2010 Probus District 9780 Conference in Geelong at Club Italia on Sunday, 10th October and Monday 11th October.   The theme of the conference is ‘The Probus Circle of Friendship’ and that Circle of Friendship is now extended to you all.  A major mail out to all clubs in the District has occurred in early June giving full details of the conference.

Please find links to the following documents that were contained in this mail out:

Ø The Program Brochure, designed and printed by Business Events Geelong, with a special message from the Conference Committee to all Probians and a very brief outline of the program for Sunday and Monday.   The first two paragraphs of the message are particularly aimed at Probians who live some distance from Geelong.  The back of the brochure shows the logos of our major sponsors and also lists the local Geelong businesses who have provided support.

Ø A Registration Form.  Feel free to print this.   If you do it is suggested that you print the second page on the back of the first page so that you only use one sheet.  As indicated on the Registration Form, members who register early by the 13th August will have the opportunity to win a major prize.   Please note that the Conference Committee has now decided not to proceed with online registration.

Ø The committee’s recommended list of Accommodation Places.  A more extensive accommodation list can be accessed via the web addresses which are also listed in this document.

Ø An outline of the Sunday Afternoon Activities.  This document includes a map of the Geelong Waterfront showing the location of a number of attractions with contact details.  Delegates from outside the Greater Geelong Region are encouraged to arrive in Geelong prior to the Sunday in order to maximise their enjoyment of this day.  The total Sunday program, including the evening program, is designed to allow participants a great opportunity to interact with Probians from all over District 9780.  So we encourage everyone to make the most of this day.

Ø The flyer which was handed out to all delegates at each of the five Information Days throughout District 9780 in mid April.  The flyer contains details suitable for including in club newsletters.

Now here are some other important snippets of information in relation to the conference:

Ø As Probians submit their registration for the conference they will receive in the return mail their own copies of the Program Brochure, the recommended list of Accommodation Places, the Sunday Afternoon Activities sheet with the map of the Geelong Waterfront and contact details, plus other important documents containing information in relation to the conference.

Ø There is plenty of parking at both the front and rear of Club Italia so parking shouldn’t be a problem.

Ø On arrival at the conference all delegates will receive a show bag containing a number of items, including souvenirs, a pen, writing paper and brochures of the many attractions in the Greater Geelong area.

Ø There will be a Friendship/Enquiries Desk at Club Italia manned by ‘Smiley Faced’ volunteers able to answer any questions you may have.

Ø Club Banners are both invited and encouraged and we will display them in a very prominent position at Club Italia.

Ø The cost of $36.00 for each day has not changed in the last 4 years – so the committee is really pleased to have kept this year’s conference cost at the same level.  The Program Brochure gives you a very good idea of the value you will be getting for your money.

Ø Coffee, Tea and Biscuits will be continuously available.  Decaffeinated Coffee and Diabetic biscuits will also be available.

Ø On Sunday afternoon the bar will be open should one want something a little stronger. There will be a Friendship Area with seating inside the Club so you can relax with the drink of your choice watch it all happen and soak up the atmosphere.

Ø At the Monday Morning Tea break there will be cake and slices.

Ø Tables for the Sunday evening and the Monday luncheon will be round or square with seating for 10 or 12, so if you would like to come as a group please send your completed registration forms in one envelope stating that you would like to be on the same table for the Sunday evening.   Otherwise seating, will be organised in order of receipt of registration forms.

Ø Monday Luncheon will be a hot Main Course followed by Dessert and Coffee and of course Chocolates.  Seating for this meal will be random so you can sit anywhere you choose.

Ø Brief details of our keynote speakers are given in the flyer.  More detailed information can be obtained from the following websites:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Hitchener and http://www.tasteoflifeeveryday.com/.  Or just carry out a Google search on these two very famous people.

Ø If you think you may be able to attend the Monday only – you’re very welcome to come along on the Sunday afternoon and sign in for the Monday, and that way you can still enjoy the Stalls, the Bocce and the Wine and Beer Tasting and meet some of our out of town fellow Probians.

Ø  Further enquiries are welcomed to either the Conference Committee Chairperson or Secretary, as mentioned in the flyer.

And on a Final Note:

This is your Conference, and in the end it’s your attendance that will decide the success of this Event.  This is the perfect opportunity for Probus Club Members to find out how entertaining and enjoyable a Conference can be.   Our District, District 9780 is the only Probus District in Australia that has an Annual Conference

You can be assured that you will be made very welcome and feel as if you’re among friends from the moment you arrive at Club Italia.

The Conference Committee is totally committed to making this year’s Probus District 9780 Conference a great experience for everyone that attends.

The members of the Conference Committee and the three host clubs look forward to welcoming you and your fellow club members to the Conference in October.
